You know, I rather think the meaning of life is to live it, and find out as much as you can.
"Enjoy the ride".

I do not imply that any single group of people (pick your minority) should not procreate. I state that the only inbuilt population control that exists within the human species is the genetic diseases that most of us (about 90%) carry. This has now been nullified by the advances in medicine. Without the advance in medicine there would be fewer genetic diseases around but in turn there would be fewer of us around to carry them.

Time is dilated in gravitational field and in the nearly infinite gravity of a primal singularity, it would be nearly infinitely dilated. Therefore you never get back to the beginning and the curve is an asymptote. Does that work?

But I'm interested how it relates to the meaning of life smiley .

I came in a bit late. Origins and Big Bangs were being discussed at the time and the remark seemed relevant then. Not strictly appropriate to the meaning of life, but a "meaning" implies a purpose and a purpose surely calls for an initiative - a "beginning".

Although purpose is not the same as beginning, nor is beginning synonymous with purpose.

We can of course take it further: to ask what is the meaning or the purpose of life is like asking what that mountain is for. It just is. Some people like to climb it; others to sit at the bottom and look at it. Others again plant a vinyard on the slope and others break it up for road metal. It all depends on you and you have to decide for yourself what you are going to do with it. If you can't think of any use for it, it gets kind of dull.

But some people still claim that mountains have purposes. One philosopher implied that the purpose of a mountain is to be consumed in a fiery explosion at the end of time. Others say it is to be seen existing. Still others talk complete nonsense. I, obviously, am of the latter group. So the purpose of a mountain is whatever you read into it. Life isn't purposeless, but it isn't purposeful. It's mu, as the cow said.

smiley It is very important as to who is asking the question. An adult or a child. You could live for years never knowing what the question is,eventhough you may claim to have lived a rich life.A young life may burn brighter in its fewer years on this corporal plain.Life is what you make of it.If you don't burn so brightly why waste the question?

The meaning of life is to make a mark on those around you. Those who live shorter lives make their marks with a single action so vibrant that all around cannot help but be changed by their contact with said person. Those of us who live into dotage make several less distinct marks on those around us. These marks while being less potent are still the result of living a successful life.

I used to think that too; but answer me this; say I die and leave a huge impact on all my closest friends. What's the point, if they die soon? Especially if they themselves leave no mark?

you make a huge impact on the world by simply existing. there's no way of knowing what major or minor or trillions of minor things you may have caused simply by takign up space in the universe, giving someone inspiration as you walked by, or simply by putting a thoguht into someone's head by leaving a stick lying on the ground. but since these happen simply by existence and by not-existing too they are individually irrelevant. by dying you would be making an impact that is made hundreds or hundreds of hundreds of times everyday.

Do you think that your parents would be the same if you were never born?

Simply by existing we impress ideas, desires and beliefs onto those around us. And even if those we alter by knowing die shortly arter us we always have re-incarnation.
