That /quote in the middle of the posting
between my cut and paste of your line and
my enclosing of that cut and paste with the
< quote / quote >
method you suggested
is entirely a mystery.
I did not type that in.
It's some sort of cyber shadow.

I vaguely recall that quote tags exist but are turned off. Or something like that. I've never seen them working on h2g2, but I have seen them on some of the BBC messageboards which use the same software.

It is always quite difficult to show how to quote smiley without actually quoting LOL

Here's a nice quote

was done by putting in

[quote] Here's a nice quote [/quote]

but with < and > where the [ and ] are in the explanation.

Does that make sense?

On a message board, 'the atheists' have been accused of resorting to 'wild stuff' to show that there are valid alternatives to believing in the biblical version of the resurrection.

I have answered that

"Even if an atheist postulated that Jesus was rescued from the cross by aliens in invisibility cloaks, who then used hologram technology to achieve the other effects, it STILL wouldn't be as wild as the idea that a god sent his son in human form to be born of a virgin and then get killed, resurrected and then go to heaven!"

Anyone here got any better comebacks? I am open to ideas smiley

Which Biblical version of the resurrection?

The simplest explanation is that Jesus wasn't dead when he was put in the cave.

There was a whole conversation somewhere here about the resurrection. The simplest explanation, of course, is that the entire story is made up, including the execution.

I'm fairly sure it started out on "ask" - and I go back to post 124.

Perhaps Nighthoover dreamt that this thread was a butterfly on Ask but the thread is now dreaming of electric sheep on a forum that, it seems, no longer exists. Perhaps this thread has been around for so long that it has become fiction with its beginnings lost in myth and legend. The Truth is not out there - it's somewhere else biggrin run

biggrin

I think it was the word 'mass' that finally
turned everyone off after 27,000 posts.

yikes
I just remembered. This thread developed a weird mutant
tendency to appear twice in recent conversations lists
around the time the site was moving.

The latest postings were from Nov 2011 and this duplicating
phenomenon was a problem with a couple of threads.

Perhaps in deleting one they deleted the Forum it was
attached to. I would have said it was an old ASK thread
but I'd be wrong wooden eye.

Interesting - it appears twice in your conversation list but only once in mine. Those who would see this as a sign seem to have deserted this debate...

Ya know, I am thinking that this thread does belong in the "Talking about the Guide".

Over many years, there have been a zillion threads that seem to begin with the assumption that, since DNA was an avid anti-theist, the site should be as well. And happily the throngs have gone about, beating on anyone who has the gall to consider a "God" a real possibility.

And so this thread does define a very definite aspect of the Guide as a whole.

After 13 months away doing other things I'm back to say I'm glad to see the thread is still alive. Yes it did start in 'ask'.

ok
Good to see others are still subscribed.
I wonder if we'll ever get the back-story
about the duplicated listing and why this
thread disappeared during the move away
from the old Beeb servers.

The Forum to which it is attached A451522
also appears to be there now but there has
been no other activity since Nov 2011.

It would be interesting to see how many
are still subscribed to that Forum.

cheers
