It suddenly strikes me as an odd coincidence that most people my age remember the band name "Elephant's Memory" - yet no-one remembers any of the music said band played huh

Never heard of them.

But they say you don;t have to worry until you can't remember the name 'Alzeimer'.

Pierce, I think I qualify as someone who belongs to "people my age." I've never heard of "Elephant's memory." If it's a rock group, it's not surprising that I wouldn't have heard of it, as I just don't pay attention to that music genre. I hear pop songs on the public address system when I shop in the supermarket, but no one ever announces who the artists are. I might not figure out who sang or wrote a particular song until decades later.

No I don't remember the group Pierce, around the time I was going to school. I don't remember the group being on the BBC Top of the Pops TV programme.

Hi paulh,

Thanks to both you and Thinker. !!

And dear lil gave me a wondeful boost with telling me about having won that award of the Reporter badge - which i certainly do NOT remember. !!!

Go well both you and Thinker two faithful friends. I appreciate it.

I hope you have both read Willem's tale of the wonderful little member of the LIZARD FAMILY. I really think we should recommend him for an Hon. PhD. It is the most wonderful description/analysis/thesis of a marvellous little member of the lizard family whose name - yes- escapes me.!!!

That is what I mean. and yet it is right there. !!! And I have just read his marvllous contribution. It is "immediate recall" which I have not yet recaptured.......!!!!

Hi paulh

I did not remember it I had ti go back to where I wrote about it. !!

It is chameleons - and that is what I meant by "immediate recall".

Perhaps those who quoted alzheimers have a point. yet we are all going to reach it so we might as well try not to let our brains atrophy....

My sister says that an MRI scan of my mother's brain showed some atrophied regions. No similar tests were done on my father, but he seems to be doing very well mentally, as his mother did before him [she lived to be 93]. This means I have a 50% chance of ending up like my mother.

Im 63, and my brain refuses to atrophy. I'm learning new things every day, and intend to keep doing this as long as I can. A prolonged period of physical infirmity might cause enough discouragement to lose interest in mind-challenging matters. My mother used to be a librarian, and read a lot of books after retiremenyt. However, she's been frail for about ten years now, and her eyesight has become terrible. It's harder to challenge your mind when you can barely read, and your hearing is terrible. That's the problem.

People my age are around 59 years old

I remember hearing about Elephant's Memory briefly many years ago - then years later I heard that John Lennon played (and maybe even recorded?) with them

But for the life of me I can't remember any tune they ever came up with - nor do friends my age

It's no problem at all - but I do find it - well, fascinating - that this should happen to a band with this particular name laugh

Looking back the Ink Spots, the Dolly Sisters, Glenn Miller and other Big Bands come to mind. No recollection of Elephants Memory but my youngest son did his best to make Led Zeppelin unforgettable.smiley

Music is quieter and more melodic nowadays. Much to its detriment, I hear.

This music the Young People play...they can play their instruments!...they've got tunes!...and you can even hear the words! yikes Not like in my day. Harrumph.

(and look at all that awful short hair).

End with a song (my wife's school pals):

...once upon a time in a much earlier age of the world, I was driving musical instruments for a member of the Grateful Dead.

As the night went on he plied me with more and more alcohol.

We made it home safe and sound, but I never have been able to bring myself to drink and drive since...
