I mentioned writing a piece to complement that on the Kinder Scout Trespass - here 'tis.

Note on the name: You'll find references to both Cave Hill and Cavehill, going back hundreds of years, and both are still used and still right. I've gone for Cavehill for consistency. ok

You leave me with one unanswered question what happened to < 'Martlett Towers', his mansion on Cavehill overlooking the city of Belfast> was it torn down, or is it now a museum?" My question shows this is a great entry. thanks for sharing.

Nice one, KB! I'm pleased my entry prompted another.

Interesting story and a great win for the little guy!

No comments from me, it looks good to go. (Though I would also like to know what happened to Martlett Towers).

Good stuff, I can certainly add something about that. ok

(It was burned down by vandals sometime in the 1950s, so there's not much left of it now.)

A great Entry KB, I enjoyed reading it and my only minor comment would be to work into the text somewhere your comment in the opening post, about the fact that Cavehill is sometimes written Cave Hill. I googled this to see how many results there were - ( loads obviously) so it might help people to find and read this interesting Entry, if they were searching for Cave Hill.

Cheers Lanza. I think I'll add a footnote about names. Even the council never seem quite sure how to spell it laugh

Ok, I've added a footnote about the different names, and added a sentence about what became of Martlett Towers.

Interestingly, I discovered that the Volunteer Well was marked on the early editions of the Ordinance Survey maps. The first OS survey of Ireland was completed about ten years before this case all kicked off.

(Just for interest: you can juuuuust see the ghost of some of the Martlett Towers buildings here - the dark rectangle right of centre and the wispy-looking trees just south of the little triangle: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en...7003&spn=0.000805,0.001725&t=h&z=19 )

laugh Yeah, no particular reason for that. It might be a subconscious desire to sit on the fence!

A fascinating little piece of history!

The museum there has pamphlets on the subject. I know because I picked one up.

Ok, I've added a couple, but any other suggestions welcome.

(There is a sentence in there that keeps striking me as very clunky each time I read through. Off to do a job on it now.)

This is a very lively account of a struggle for the right to roam. It's good to see the court finding in favour of the the ordinary people. smiley

There are one or two sentences that could be improved.

biro I was confused by the sentence beginning 'The make or break point'. I think you could leave out 'he had built over', because it should be clear which path you're talking about.

biro I think the sentence beginning 'A picture emerged' would read better if it ended 'by people using it for reaction'.

Otherwise, great.ok
