Actually, when you vote you are entering into a legal contract to sign your affairs away to a third party. How it works is this: you are sent a form which you are obliged by law to complete. Do you sign it? I can't remember. Anyway, you proceed to the polling station where you are given a paper with candidates' names on. You then put a cross next to one. Now, legally this is a signature. You have legally authorized another to take charge of your affairs. Sad but true and diabolically clever.
