 | | I have written (and submitted) a user page on St Patricks Day over in http://www.h2g2.com/A237151 (Thinking that it would take a few weeks to get published, I did it around Christmas. People thought I was mad. Obviously I am). Feel free to add from it or ask me more about it.
My most memorable Paddy's Day was a very windy and blustery weekend in Fanore, Co. Clare. Fanore is one of those places that time has forgotten. It is tiny village with no real centre - an isolated church and one or two pubs. It is right on the west coast of Ireland overlooking the Aran islands and a few miles north of Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher. About 20 of us came down from Dublin in 1995 and we had a brilliant time - lots of ól (drinking), ceol (music) and craic (a particularly Celtic way of having a laugh). Fanore has also the distinction of the Smallest St Patricks Parade in Ireland. Literally a few old cars, about five freckled kids with Irish dancing costumes and twenty tractors pulling bales of hay. Much better than that oul' rubbish in New York, Dublin and Chicago. Particularly much better when you have just imbibed 2+ pints in advance.
