Subject: Surstömming (fermented herring)

Surstömming (fermented herring) is a traditional way preserving fish in the Far North. The taste is salty but the odours are ... erm ... quite special.

Usually you don't start to eat surströmming until your teens regardless if you're bred and born into it. People from non-endogenous areas usually find it hard to eat this fish.

...even if the large amounts of brännvin (vodka) that might be served can help winkeye
