Hire a private detective? Assuming such things exist (ie beyond TV shows) wherever you happen to be.

Regardless of who does the searching, you'd probably have to know why they were missing in order to look in the most likely places. Running away from home is different (at least initially) from being kidnapped.

When one of the guys in my office disappeared on the way home from a party in town, the police wouldn't look for him, because another guy had disappeared about six weeks before, and they had spent lots of money on a huge search and found nothing.

So his workmates organised a search, with about a hundred people combing the area he had been last seen. They found nothing. But his body turned up about three weeks later in a back yard about 100 yeards from where he had been last seen. If the police had searched they would have found him.sadface

That is awful Gnomon. sadface

I suppose it depends on who it is your looking for, the circumstances regarding the disappearence etc.

A fully grown adult with no previous mental illness, with active bank transactions etc, they would deem as not officially 'missing'.

Can you give more details?

Do a google search on "missing persons bureau"... In the uk, the best people are missingpersons.org. They have come up trumps for my friend in the past. Good luck.... I hope you find your friend in good health. lease let us know how you get on.

We had to do this when my uncle went missing. Pressuming this is an adult, and they've left where htey were living and just 'vanished', then it'd be simular to what we didn.
1. of their last place they lived, contact who is there now, do they have a fowarding adress? who is the letting agency get in contact with them; who was the solicotor who sold hte house/flat, get in contact with them.
2. contact all the local hospitals and find if the person has been/was admitted to teh hospitals.
3. likewise for local hostals/homeless centres; the person must be living somwhere....
4. friends of the missing person, contact all of them, and try to find out anythign you can; espeically if its obvious they're not letting on something.....
5. missing persons favourate haunts; pubs local shops clubs etc., they visited/were members of, interrigate people there...
6. records of birth deths and marrage; depending how long the person has been missing, is there evidence of them gettin maried/remarried, etc....
7. again depending on how long they've been missing, a good hunt round the internet can be useful; if they're working somewhere and they might have themselves metnioned on teh companys website etc....

The police found him, eventually. But they won't tell anyone where he is because he doesn't want to be found.
