This isn't a bug, just a request for consideration down the line.

I use IE, and I have 20/25-30 vision, use glasses for reading, and can't focus on anything closer than 18 inches - which is about half a meter? In other words, I have no near vision. Now.

I always have text size set to Largest. While headers, etc, on Pliny are fine, the default text is at the bare bottom edge of readable for me. Also, I cannot see any hyperlinks. If I wrote the text, and know there's a hyperlink, I can mouse over it to get the underscore. Otherwise, I will not see or click on a hyperlink.

My suggestion would be: either make the font one size larger, or make it darker, or use a different font that is easier for the visually impaired to read. Also, make the hyperlink colour more contrastive.

I think that doing this would mean that we got more casual readers who would follow links and browse longer. winkeye

I have also mentioned the hyperlink color issue elsewhere. A bright blue, as is used in brunel would work fine, I believe, while not clashing with the pliny color scheme.

Unfortunately I think that kind of blue *would* clash with the color scheme but I'm thinking about what we could take.

Dmitri, could you please post some links of pages which you think are good to read?

Well, then let it clash. Better than being invisible.

But I'm sure y'all can find a suitable color. I was just looking at my screen and could see how well that color stands out from black on a white background.

ok

Hey, Tav, you mean pages generally? Like this?

Readable, good contrast with links:

http://www.straightdope.com/columns...read/758/what-does-callipygian-mean

Main text is a good size, text in box small but readable:

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/15seconds.asp

Perfect text size, really good contrast:

http://www.pastemagazine.com/articl...eview-lazy-lazarus-episode-508.html

Does that help?

Thank you Dmitri, that's interesting because for me all that text is smaller than our text in Pliny. huh

I think you're right, Tav.

The font on this page:

http://www.straightdope.com/columns...read/758/what-does-callipygian-mean

Is probably smaller than the font on this page:

http://www.h2g2.com/entry/thepost

But the first one is easier for me to read. huh

I'm thinking it's contrast, but I may be wrong. It might just be the font. Any ideas?

Also, the text on the Post FP looks smaller than the text on this page:

http://www.h2g2.com/entry/A87756880

Is this real, or something my computer did? Or something I'm doing when I set up the Post, maybe?

The second page is large enough to satisfy anybody, I'm guessing - though the link contrast issue is still there.

I also have trouble reading the text on pliny. I don't think it's anything to do with the font size - it's more the combination of different shades of grey on white. I find them very hard to see.

Yes, I also think it's the color, other than that it seems normal for me.

Thanks for searching these links Dmitri.smiley

It is a flaw in Barlesque that has been carried forward into Pliny, and it probably causes a lot of problems to people who could be readers. But I know it's probably on the list of things to change. smiley

I've started using 90% zoom in Pliny, and I'm much happier with it now... Or did I already say that?

Um... I'm thinking about this problem and discussing it with others. I'm not sure yet what the solution will be but I'm working on it. I guess I'll have more questions for you (and maybe others) later because I can't see the things like you do obviously.

Pastey made the text color darker, changed all links to bold (also changed the link color a bit) and if you have clicked on a link the color even changes. biggrin

However, I can't see the change in color after a link has been visited.
