  | | Sorry I'm jumping the gun here, and I know the techs are very busy...
Can anyone say if anything can be done about access to accounts that were lost during the bbcID upgrade? I'm not talking about ones that missed the upgrade but those of us that tried to upgrade and lost access to our accounts in the process.
I tried to sort mine out with the Eds last year, but got bogged down in the details. There is an A page that I should get transferred to another account if I'm going to lose permanent access to the A page creator account. I don't know if it's safe to leave this until after we move, or if it should be done before. I also have a few accounts that would be nice to access again, but I'm aware that some people lost access to their primary accounts.
If it can wait, I'm happy to wait. But if it needs to be done before leaving bbcID then I'd like to start sorting out the details from my end.
I think it would also be good to know if the accounts that lost their access because they didn't upgrade will become available again. I know you might not be able to answer that yet, and there will be more FAQs at some point, so just raising a flag really.
tia, kea.

  | | Hi Kea, our No Researcher Left Behind program aims to reunite *every* researcher with their account(s).
It's not a short term project that we're just running to get people over from BBCiD to the new system, we're going to try and keep this running as long as there are researchers who find themselves locked out.
The hardest part of all this is verifying that a user claiming an account actually is the owner of that account. We're currently working on as many different ways we can think of that will help here, not just for the initial transfer, but for longer term reunion.

  | | OK, how about we post a list of all Researchers we could not reach or did not respond. The fellow Researchers that know one or more from that list IRL could contact the 'loose' Researcher(s) and have them contact the Transition Team. If they can provide 'Proof of Registration', say the U-nuber, E-mail address and some other not yet determined data they can be 'Rescued' and move with us to the new location. A recommendation from a fellow ~active~ Researcher gives the claim even more credit I would think.
The Tech Team is working hard to come up with creative solutions and try to cover all contingencies wether or not Auntie wants to work with us and how much the BBC is prepared to helps us pack the crates and boxes and bags.
I can't say anything official or off the record. Pastey is the one to listen to, very carefully, he will only say it once...
Hang in there, we'll do our durnest best to get things sorted.

  | | Each time we've talked to the guys at the beeb they've said that they will work with us as much as they can. They said at the start of all this that their main concern was the welfare of the community, and it's been shown that it was. They really do seem to want the best for us, and I believe that will include helping us move.
I've said it before, so it's obviously not just the once and no doubt I'll say it again, I'm *determined* to get *every* researcher over. If it means that I have to manually edit the database then so be it!
We're fortunate in a way that we do know a lot of us outside of here, in that big scary "real" world, and we did early on in the process discuss idea of a user vouching system, where a user could come along and say "This is me", enter their user number and their email address, and then enter the user number and email addresses of other researchers that could vouch for them. Each referee that did would trigger their "vouched points" and once they got passed a certain amount their account would be automatically reactivated.
Do keep raising your concerns though, but also remember that we're now running ourselves (or will be soon). We're going to blooming well do what we can for our own benefit :D

  | | Witty Moniker will be the contact for the Community Editors Team.
WM >> Contacting any of the Aces or other community volunteers is the most efficient way to handle these issues. Anything that appears to be a tech related glitch they will refer to me and I will pass them through to the tech team.
I think it will be a good idea to stream announcements from the Techs to the Community through WM because the Community Editors will be herding the 'flock' to the new location I mean guiding the Researchers of course.
