Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 25, 2012 by Icy NorthThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3282 They're not the same numbers - they're different numbers formed from the same digits.
Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 25, 2012 by Dene - specialist in red herringsThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3283 I do not think that the numbers read 7 hundred and 77 etc.I think that they are meant to read 7,7,7,8,8,8,and 9,9,9.I will wait for confirmation.
Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 25, 2012 by Icy NorthThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3284 Well, it certainly makes it easier.
 Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 25, 2012 by Icy NorthThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3285 Trivial, in fact:77*8 - 7*88 + 999 = 999That's why I think they're after something using 777, 888 and 999.
Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 26, 2012 by Sheep in wolfs clothingThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3286 I am looking for an answer using the individual numbers 7, 8 and 9 three times each. I believe there is an answer using 777, 888 and 999 but using computing language.P.S. unless you mistyped your answer, Icy, it is wrong.
 Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 26, 2012 by Icy NorthThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3287 No, it's correct, but I'll add brackets to make it absolutely clear:(77 x 8) - (7 x 88) + 999 = 999or: 616 - 616 + 999 = 999
Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 27, 2012 by Dene - specialist in red herringsThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3288 I think that Sheep indicated that you cannot use figures such as "seventy seven" or "eighty eight".He says:-I am looking for an answer using the individual numbers 7, 8 and 9 three times each. But he does contradict this by saying:- I believe there is an answer using 777, 888 and 999 but using computing language..
Subject: Nice brainteaserPosted Apr 27, 2012 by Sheep in wolfs clothingThis is a reply to this Posting Posting 3289 Icy, apologies for my earlier comment (I must have mistyped in my calculator). I agree that this answers the questions using the numbers given. There is also an answer using single digits only, if you want to attempt it. Otherwise it's your turn to set another.
