I'm always a bit dubious about answering these things! It's a great way to find out people's security questions for online banking and the like. winkeye

The blues one is definitely better than the pirate one. There must be a better pirate one...

My Bond girl name is very dull too.

Think I did a journal entry about this once upon a time...

You can crack accounts just using our initials. That is impressive

Worryingly, it would seem I'm related to the Blood's resident parrot. my pirate name came out as: Calico Mary Flint

As for the *fishing for info* aspect of these things... I stopped using my mother's maiden name for anything online a long time ago. Being a little bit savvy about what information you are putting on the internet and marrying that up to what you're using as security information is not hard so long as you're aware that you need to do it.

And I find some of them amusing.

Of course we should all be aware of the possibility of fraud, but it's much more interesting to generate a name from information unique to yourself, than from a list.

It should be simple to invent a new method of producing non-list names without risking personal information. Take the name of the first animal you see, and add it to the colour of the seat you're on. That gives me 'Starling Maroon', but a few minutes ago it could have been 'Cat Green', and upstairs it might have been 'Gull Black'. Not sure what sorts of names these might be though...

Things like your mothers' maiden name are commonly used security checks however, and are extremely commonly used to find a 'fun' name.

But if you don't use your mothers' maiden name, your grandmothers' name, you favourite (or first, often but not always the same) pet's name or your middle name as any sort of security check then it will never be an issue, you're not giving away information that needs to be secure.

Being aware is the only way to stay safe, wherever you are!
