  | | Over analysis
Well prehaps, but then it is a large part of my job to analyse things. The title 'What did Tolkien Mean?' becomes a bit restrictive though don't you think.
To me the desire to talk about JRRT is actually greater than my wish to undrstand what he wrote or why I like it. It just leaves me in awe, the landscapes the stories Gandalf is a great creation, but so is the Ring ect ect.... Prehaps that makes me sad but there you go.

  | | This is suffering the same fate as the "God - Fact or Fiction" thread <goes back to pick up the link, spots Strontium Dog and Adelaide Cat at it like . . . cats & dogs> which I joined very soon after landing here (Nov 2002).
I answered the question repeatedly, to my own perfect satisfaction, but no one seemed to take a blind bit of notice, and there you are still debating it almost two years on.
This thread's question was answered about six months ago ("to supply the lack of an English mythology") by I've forgotten who, and the answer is buried in the middle of a thread that just would not die.
Humph. <unsubscribes> See if I care. And catch me reading the Silmarillion? I've much more important things to do, like . . . em . . .
