Subject: Can't support your claims? Why not sue?

A short while ago, science author Simon Singh was sued for stating that chiropractors have no evidence that their treatment are effective for asthma, ear infections and other childhood conditions. This is the first case of its kind, and more will surely follow if it is successfully prosecuted.

This may not seem a big deal, but scientific scrutiny of treatments and critical discussion of medical practice are vital to ensure the safety of patients and prevent companies from making false claims as to the effectiveness of their products. Open debate and the careful review of evidence would be stifled by the sheer cost of defending a libel claim and the way that libel law is weighted against writers.

A campaign is now underway to keep the libel laws out of scientific disputes - please support it at http://www.senseaboutscience.org.uk/index.php/site/project/334/

cheers

Generally doctors are not very much liked here. From both side: doctor/patient relations are really not as nice as it could be.run
If you interested can send more info.
