  | | ..about me. Because if they would only ask me instead of assuming I might just turn round and suprise the hell outta them. By sharing these assumptions with other people they become in a way a truth by which you are forever judged How do you begin to explain that the person you are thought to be isn't the way you *really* are? especially when you've never been asked who the *real* you is...It frustrates me, yet I haven't got a clue about how to go about correcting people's misconceptions. All I know is I'm not like they think I am. The rest I just make up as I go along and hope for the best

  | | Oops,
That's me told. I made an assumption (based, admittedly on your nickname, visible for all to see, but an assumption nonetheless).
Sorry.
I have to agree with the rest of your journal entry. I suffer and have suffered from this in the past. My best method has been 'starting again' e.g. going to a university that no-one else from my schools went to, moving to an entirely new place where my spouse & I knew no-one else (bad move that one, on the whole (except for being married of course )), and moving from temp job to contract (with occasional permanent role) like the lumberjack leaping from tree to tree in the mighty forests of British Columbia, we'd sing, sing, sing......
Ahem. Where was I? I do get carried away sometimes.
Yes, so I know what you mean. Who are you... that's a tricky one though. I'm afraid I'll have to resort to a clichéd quote (it's from Doctor Who but don't let that put you off)
"A man* is the sum of his memories"
*you can substitute the being-designation of your choice here
I don't know if that's entirely helpful (the quote continues 'A Time Lord even more so'!) but it's all I've got just now. Most of the time you just have to wait for the stupider ones amongst these people (generally most of them, if you define 'stupid' by their behaviour rather than making it an absolute label) to catch up with observing how and who you are now, not lazily depending on their mental image of you.
This *has* turned into an incredible ramble. I hope you don't get caught on any thorns!
BTW have you read 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time'? What I was burbling about there reminded me of a passage from it but I'll wait for an answer before ploughing on.
Sorry to just burst in here and start posting mad messages. I am in fact, completely sane - just ask my pet Pteranodon.
