  | | Hi was just reading the guide entry on Amstrad computers, then after reading the threads on the bottom of that page came across your post. You seem to be very knowledgable about Amstrad computers so i thought i would say hi. I have an old PCW and my brother has a CPC 6128. I am just intrested in finding anybody who is still into these old computers and wondered if there was an Am,strad club still going in this country( I am from Kent England ). I am a complete computer novice so if i start asking lots of questions and expecting answers to questions i had never thought of , just tell me to " bog off" .
I know there are a few usenet gruops , but sadly my isp doesnt have usenet facilites , and there are a couple of Dutch clubs into Amstrad and i have spoken to the guy who runs one but they are on the other side of the channel( great websites tho ).
Kind regards Mike

  | | Hi, Mike.
I gave up my own Amstrad 464 back in 1987, but I did a stint working for the only Amstrad dealership in Aberdeen in 1992. I repaired 464s, 664s, 6128s, PCWs and the Amstrad PCs. (I might even have a 464 service manual in a box in the shed)
My pal Bob has a 6128, and also runs an Amstrad emulator on his Linux PC.

  | | Hi
Thats great , i wish i had one all those years ago. I have caught a bit of an Amstrad bug i think they are great little machines , built to last, if i put my mind to it my little PCW 8256 is going to teach me what i should have learnt first time round when i took computer studies at school , with my mind on anything but computer studies, so it is CP/M, DR Logo and Mallard Basic for me ( not to mention some Locoscipt aswell ). I have been doing a bit of reading ( without doing alot of doing ) and have a general idea of what i want to do ( if i do half i will very happy ).

  | | Hi i will remember that, i have never been much of a gamer but have tried my hand at Elite ( pc plus version ) , without any success atall , but i havnt spent much time on it; a great little game/idea though and i recently got my brother a copy of myth for the cpc , great and simple game.
My gaming experience extends to playing ghosts and ghouls and defender in the arcade all them years ago.
I think gaming as everything else has moved on since then, a friend recently introduced me to World od Warcraft, tho i havnt subcribed to it i had a look and am genuinely impressed-i can remember all my mates getting exited over that Zelda game years back and that had no intrest for me atall , but now it might do maybe .
Would be nice if there were a few more people who were intrested in learning basic programming on an old z80 machine , but there doesnt seem to be many people starting out , i will just have to read the f'ing manuel on my own i spose , in no hurry actually its nice to have an intrest in something awakened after so long being a blind spot on the brain.
