People have always been very nice and helpful. You don't need to be fluent in French, the moment they see that you try they go out of their way to help you. She declined, fearing her presence would not be well recieved. She may have been wrong, of course. A87780612 A33659210 This is a reply to this Posting   Posting 33 I live a stone's throw from Alsace. The Germans are very welcome there, as they spend a lot of money over the border. I can't believe that anyone (German) would have qualms about going there. It's the only place in France where German is spoken and all along the border there are partnerships and exchanges. Unfortunately, very little effort is made on the part of the Germans to speak French, but this doesn't seem to bother the French that much, so long as they (les kr*a*u*ts) come and buy wine and cheese, and visit the castles, and have slap-up meals in the restaurants. Germans who can think that far are sometimes ashamed that they don't speak French. PS - I have a feeling that the German word for cabbage trips the filter, so I've tried to describe it. It's French!
