I suppose I probably shouldn't mention the time I used nail polish remover on my face before going to bed instead of my 'cleansing tonic' stuff.

It was late! I was tired! They were both green liquids in similar looking bottles!

Sure woke up in a hurry though!

Nail polish remover, yikes!!! I bet it hurt...
I was talking to my older son last night, and he pointed out that in the 'Meaning of Liff' book, there is a word for the phenomenon of going into a room and forgetting what you went in there for... He was going to look it up for me, but he couldn't find the book!

Did he remember the word? I'm curious as I do this a lot.

Meanwhile, have placed hairspray and deodorant on opposite ends of the bathroom shelf to avoid any future surprises. Again - they are the same colour and size. It's almost like they do this on purpose!

The word is "woking" if I recall correctly. That everybody grasps the necessity of a special word for it is probably an indication of how widespread it is. My own version usually involves going into a room, doing something, going back to where I was, and *then* realising that that wasn't actually the reason I'd gone in there. (There's a shopping version of this too, but I don't suppose I need to elaborate... erm

Aha, Noggin, with his impressive (and sometimes annoying! winkeye ) memory strikes again!

The word is indeed 'woking'. Just looked it up.

WOKING (participial vb.)
Standing in the kitchen wondering what you came in here for.

Though I don't think this only applies to kitchens . . .

To be fair "woking" is almost the only word in the book that I do remember, on account of its usefulness. The others are "ely" and "wembley", which probably tells you something. winkeye

Hi, Noggin, I do that version of it as well, carefully doing something else and remembering too late what I went there for...

Thanks for supplying the word!

Az,

If you switched to roll-on deodorant, I'll bet there'd be fewer mixups. Highly unlikely to roll over your hair to make it behave! winkeye

As to this "woking" you speak of, I once stuck my tennis-shoe-style clogs in the fridge for some reason. Please don't ask me what, but I'm almost sure there must have been a reason...

Um, yes, I think if the day ever came that I rolled deodorant all over my head then this would be a very sad day indeed.

Tennis shoes in the fridge, eh? Weirdo! winkeye

The reason is that it keeps them cold. Why else would you put something in the fridge erm

Makes perfect sense in hot weather. eureka

Noggin,

You are so kind for giving me such an excellant excuse...too bad I can't use it!

I think it must have been around November, as I had some cranberry sauce (a tart and very seasonal item in the states) sitting right next to them!

Granted this IS California, but even so, not necessary to cool shoes down at that time of year.

Must have had a senior moment ... or the appropriately named "wok" ! laugh
