It snowed heavily last weekend for effectively the first time this winter and the forecast is for snow tonight and tomorrow, but . . .


"This year's mild, dry winter has prompted the Alberta government to move the start of wildfire season a full month earlier than usual to March 1."

as a comparison the area devastated just last summer by wildfires was almost exactly twice as big as the area of the Athabasca Tar Sands considered by the ERCB (Energy Resources Conservation Board) to be potentially extractable by (strip) mining.

And this summer is shaping up to be more of a tinder box.
