Well to knit a circle for the crown of the hat was going to be too hard.
So I got out a crochet hook and worked a few rounds until I had a piece big enough for the crown. Then I crocheted a straight piece for the sides- do they have a name? Then joined it to the crown and made some rounds increasing gradually for the brim. And the customer is satisfied again.
No, it didn't work out right first time- I increased too much for the brim and had a frilly effect which was not appreciated so I pulled it back a bit and tried again.

Well, my dear, you are very clever to be able to crochet. Every time I tried to I would get a wobbly thing that turned out to be nothing!!. But I loved knitting when I was younger and particularly fair isle and Arran knitting.

Unfortunately I can no longer knit due to my hands being very unco-operative. I still do not know where you live!!. Perhaps you will tell me.

I am now going to try and warm myself up as I am freezing.

Sicerely,

AR1 schooloffish

I live in the north of England.

I'm not very good at crochet and can't do anything from a pattern because the tension comes out wrong.

No, only crochet - knitting takes far too long.
