Sunday Market in Valletta, Malta

There is nothing quite like the weekly Sunday market in Valletta in my second home of Malta.
First a little background, Valletta is the capital of the Repulica ta Malta. It is the same city where Oliver Reed died.
Every Sunday a market is held outside the city gates. These gates are a huge towering monstrosity, made of sandstone that gives it a sort of yellow tint.
The market takes place just past the small shop stalls and the main terminus for the islands sprawling bus network.
The stalls are invariably selling some form of bootleg clothing, pirate video Cds or Playstation games (Not all of which are in English) and other assorted junk.
Some sell food, inlcuding everything from boxes of pasta to Hellwa, a Maltese sweet that is similar to nougat but is made of nuts and has a rougher texture.
The market is always packed and full of sweaty people. It is this hustle and bustle which I personally love.
The market stall owners are generally pleasant and helpful and are always willing to haggle, your chances of a lower price are increased if you speak il Malti (Maltese).
So if you are in Malta, I suggest that you hop on the bus and go to the market. You might even see me there! bigeyes
