A Conversation for Joan of Arc and the Role of Medieval Women

By coincidence I happened to read a short chapter on Joan in a History of the Hundred Years War just yesterday. Two items I recall which do not appear in the entry,
1) that she insisted on holding Charles VII's coronation in Riems and had to cut a swath through enemy held territory to reach the cathedral there and
2) that she was wounded by a crossbow arrow which imbedded in her thigh and was left on the battlefield by Charles' 'commanders' (presumably to die) until after dark when she made it back to French lines. Her 'invulnerability myth' was however shattered and Charles disbanded much of his army for several months.
It was only after she recovered that she managed to gather a new army and again began harassing British defenses until she was captured - literally snatched off her horse by a Burgundian ally of the British who sold her to them for a handsome ransom.
Good to see this entry featured on the front page today!
