At some point in the 1970s, someone decided to replace the five kingdoms with three superkindoms: Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, and Ekaryots (animals, plants, fungi, protists). The idea never caught on.

I believe they are called Domains not 'Super kingdoms' and many taxonomists still believe in their value.

Yeah, you're right. I got that original satement from a book that was evidently wrong, though having been though a year and a half of university, I have discovered that domains are in fact the main system used.
