This week, it's been my turn to choose some of my favourites from the Guide. This entry is definitely in there. I grew up not far from the East End, further out towards the suburbs. I've been through the area a million times and I've always thought it's much under-rated. It looks rather shoddy, but as you can tell from this entry, there are a myriad of true gems to be uncovered

I think that a lot is written about the east end but you can really only know the east end if you live in it.
I am a single mum trying to bring up 2 kids in the east end. There are a lot of very positive aspects eg no snobbiness but equally a lot of very negative aspects.

I dont envy you at all. Thats a hard task. And it must be dispiriting at times. If you want a Pheroneous maxim (and who does!) I have always thought that we are made up one third of genes, one third of parents and home and one third school and environment, plus, of course one third luck and chance. (Now you see why my philosophies are erroneous!) So, if you and the kids are good you are more than halfway there!
btw, thanks Anna, for including my little piece. To be up there alongside Alaskan Fish Plants ia a great honour - that too would be among my favourites.
