A Conversation for Shakespeare's Globe, Bankside, London

The fake globe isn't on the original site (which is one street back) because the current site was inside the Thames high tide line until the wharves were built. The new site is much better.

The district is Southwark. The road it is built on is Bankside (the ticket office faces New Globe Walk).

The building isn't a strict rebuilding - the fire stairs are now wide enough for more than one person etc. In order to make the place safe the architects did a lot of rejigging of the proportions which means it is a lot bigger.

It is the only thatched roof building to have been built in greater London since the Great Fire (1666). It was rethatched for the 2009 season (they may do this all the time - I don't know).
