Hi, nice to read about Yorkshire Pud here.
I have to write though to register a very basic mistake.
To suggest that Puds were used to replace crockery is daft. To cook a pud needs a metal dish. A metal dish was always [until very recently] more expensive than a wooden bowl. A wooden bowl was always [again until recently] cheaper than crockery.
To suggest that a part of England famous for soups, stews and casseroles would not have bowls to eat from ... well, do you see my point?
Sometimes things happen just because it's nice that way. I respectfully suggest that is the case here ...
