I want to be an astronomer in my old age, but for now I am a mom. I believe everyone should reinvent themselves periodically. Linear existence is for pedants and anyone I really, really dislike.
Time is a concept that I just do not get. It starts. It stops. It speeds up and slows down. I never quite know what it is going to do. Instead of being linear, as most people seem to expect, it is more like a wild roller coaster ride.
I have a BA in History, but only know a few dates. My favorite is Christmas Day, 800 - Charlemagne was crowned Holy Roman Emperor. I have two that come with being an American: July 4, 1776 - Declaration of Independence was signed, and December 7, 1941 - "a day that will live in infamy" i.e. Pearl Harbor was attacked. 1066 is William The Conqueror's magic number. I usually get my children's birthdays right, but sometimes switch the years. My Husband's birthday... I get all the numbers right but sometimes get the sequence wrong. I am more interested in the why's and what's and how's of people's lives. The seeries that started with "1900 House" is one of my favorites - especially the latest episode to air here on the ancient Celts. I like knowing that people in the Middle Ages used slices of dry bread with a hole in the middle as a salt shaker.
Flag wavers annoy me. It is so mindless and knee-jerk to pledge one's allegiance to a scrap of cloth. They should salute the Constitution of the United States instead.
I love video games and playing Dungeons and Dragons, but have no time. On TV, I love science fiction and documentaries. Sit-coms are a huge bore - seen one, seen 'em all. Anything with a predictable script is a waste of air space. Books: everything but romance and pop self-help. Housework and laundry are a hughe waste of time. It never stays done. Currently I am trying to convince my family to go naked. Not much success there - yet! I daydream about sailing through the stars on solar winds...
