a latter-day Lear, latterly not here (well, not much, anyway)
The perfect way is without difficulty. Strive hard...
- old Zen paradox
Good evening
I am, it seems, a thirty-something male from London with a love of language, life, literature, and many other things beginning with 'L' (excluding lumberjacks1).
I'm a rather private person by nature, so that's about all you're likely to get as a general introduction.
A bit more information than you really needed
I have been an h2g2er, if that's the correct term, since the very early pre-Rupert period; however, I don't spend much time online these days, so I'm not often up with the latest developments here. I find visiting this website is a bit like taking a short holiday somewhere you've visited many times before: you wouldn't want to be there all the time, it's the fact that you only visit occasionally that makes it feel special. I tend to use Hootoo more for the chatty, fun stuff, and go elsewhere when I'm in a serious, spectacle-wearing mood.
What else do I enjoy? I enjoy chess, travelling, good company, and walking in the English countryside. I prefer a good, strong, cup of tea to one of these and I don't smoke anything stronger than the occasional celebratory café crème. My higher ed background is in Literary Studies but these days I'm more interested in life science and related subjects -- ecology, evolutionary psychology, game theory, stuff like that. I'm quite interested in Zen, too, but only as a complement to rationalism (a way of coming to terms with and expressing the logically inexpressible), not as a means of escaping from it.
Oh yes, and I should add that I'm a bit of a Bloo Goo man. Click on that link to view this page as nature intended, if you're not already doing so.
